The 18 "NL" banks make up the preset library that comes pre-installed with a new C15. They are named after instrument and sound categories to make it easier to find a preset with a certain sound. All factory presets come with hashtags like #piano or #metallic in the Comment field that allow to search them by category and sound character. And they all have Macro Controls assigned enabling you to modify the preset sounds dynamically with ribbons or pedals. The NL banks will be expanded and updated over time. Therefore their labels contain a version number like "v01"
This is where things go deep. This bank contains presets that demonstrate their full potential in the lower registers. The range includes different kinds of electric and synth basses, as well as the occasional acoustic bass simulation. Some presets use the unison mode. Many of these sounds are also well-suited for other applications when played in the higher registers.
The Brass bank provides a variety of sounds reminiscent of brass instruments (from solo to orchestral), including trumpets, trombones, and horns. Some of these sounds are better suited to solo or lead instruments, while other work well as harmonic accompaniment. There are also numerous sounds that combine acoustic and artificial qualities, which are sometimes just a controller movement apart.
Unlike the 'Percussion‘ bank, this bank contains sounds reminiscent of a typical Pop/Rock/Jazz drum set, i.e. bass drum, snare drum, toms, hihat, cymbals, sidestick and their electronic equivalents. Some presets are split-sounds, e.g. to provide open and closed hihat.
This bank features a mixture of sounds with a distinctly synthetic character. They cannot be clearly assigned to other categories. The envelope is fast enough to play a hookline or a solo, as well as fast chord progressions. Some of these presets use the unison mode.
Thanks to its physical modelling capabilities and cabinet simulation the C 15 can produce some pretty convincing guitar sounds, ranging from clean and classical to heavily distorted. There are also quite a few other presets that might remind you of instruments such as the banjo, dobro, mandolin, sitar and lap steel guitar.

This bank contains a selection of tuned percussion instruments (harmonic and inharmonic), at least tonally playable to a certain extent. Think of wood and stone marimbas, xylophones, crystal bowls, steel drums and other similar instruments. These presets oftentimes use the comb filter to generate their sound, which gives them their resonant and bell-like quality.
Here we have a variety of sounds like pipe organs, electric organs and related keyboard instruments such as e.g. harmonium. Unlike real organs, many of the sounds in this bank are velocity sensitive and their pitches are bendable too, which gives you more room for expression.
A variety of sounds that are distinctly synthetic in character. These sounds can be played tonally and polyphonically, and cannot be clearly assigned to other more specific categories. They are sustained and characterised by a comparatively slow envelope and the ability to apply a certain depth to a musical arrangement.
This bank contains a wide variety of percussive sounds that can be used to create rhythmic patterns but cannot clearly be assigned to the Drums category. Think of exotic drums and percussion instruments, metallic one-shots, or similar percussive sounds with acoustic or electronic sonics. No definable pitch here, hence not tonally playable.
This bank contains a wide range of expressive piano-like sounds, mostly reminiscent of electric and FM pianos, but also some with acoustic character – or something in between.
This bank contains tonally playable sounds reminiscent of plucked or hammered strings that cannot be clearly associated with „Guitars“ or „Pianos“. Also keyboard instruments such as e.g. harpsichord and clavinet can be found in this bank. Many of these presets utilise the C 15’s physical modelling capabilities, i.e. they use the comb filter to behave like a plucked string excited by a short sound burst.
Here you'll find sound textures or noises without explicitly percussive character. No definable pitch here, hence not playable in musical patterns. Many of these sounds are very dynamic thanks to their controller mappings.
The 'Soundscape' bank primarily includes presets that might appeal to film composers, although it is not exclusively aimed at these. You can find mainly slow and sustained sounds with almost always atmospheric character containing both tonal and inharmonic or even noisy elements. Some are intentionally simple, while others feel a bit like short single-key soundtracks.
These presets are rather – special. You will find sounds that make use of special features of the C15 and cannot be clearly assigned elsewhere (e.g. ’Split-Reso’, ’Swarms’). This also includes sounds that change their characteristics so significantly when a Macro Control is used, that they should actually belong to multiple categories. Many of them can be played tonally and polyphonically, but not all. Due to their unique nature, they may require some explanation in order to be used effectively. This bank contains – who would have guessed? – sounds reminiscent of bowed string instruments (from solo to orchestral) as well as string machines. Many of these presets have an expansive and spacious character, complementing the Pad Synth bank very well.
This bank contains presets that have a beautiful artificial quality, reminiscent of vocal sounds to a greater or lesser extent. It includes pad sounds, as well as sounds that can be used as lead voices.
This bank covers a wide spectrum reminiscent of woodwind-like instruments, including flutes, reeds and accordion, harmonica, as well as pretty much in between. The extensive range of timbres, which can be anywhere from artificial to quite realistic, is generally achieved through complex phase modulation and feedback – both interesting key features of the C15’s sound engine.
